Victorians brace for another day of extreme fire danger as temperatures soar
Victorians are being urged to stay vigilant as the state faces another day of extreme fire danger. With temperatures expected to reach a scorching 40 degrees in Mildura, it's a critical time for residents to take extra precautions.
The fire danger rating will be extreme across most of Victoria, with warm conditions and north-westerly winds predicted before a gusty south-westerly change. The South-West and East Gippsland Fire Districts will be the only regions with a high fire danger rating.
In Melbourne, the mercury will hit 32 degrees, with a chance of afternoon and evening showers. However, northern parts of the state will be even hotter, with Mildura expecting temperatures to soar to 40 degrees. Echuca will see a high of 39 degrees, while Bendigo will reach 36 degrees.
Gippsland will experience a top temperature of 37 degrees, with 5 to 15mm of rain expected in the afternoon and evening. Moderate north to north-westerly winds of up to 30 km/h are forecast, before a cooler south-westerly change moves across the state.
A band of rain is also expected to pass over the state in the afternoon and evening, bringing a few millimetres of rain to most areas. The north-east district is already under a total fire ban due to hot and very dry conditions, combined with moderate westerly winds.
While a total fire ban has not yet been declared for any part of Victoria, authorities will provide an update on tomorrow's fire danger during a press conference at 2.30 pm today. Residents are encouraged to stay informed and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety and the safety of their communities.
