Rugby fans in East Yorkshire are in for a rarely seen treat: a World Cup trophy making a regional stop. The event, hosted by the club, will unite players and supporters to celebrate women’s rugby and to showcase the strong local passion for the women’s game.
Driffield’s women’s team began nearly a decade ago with just a handful of members, but it has since expanded to two full squads. The club also runs a junior section, which started about five years ago. Players from both senior and junior teams have gone on to represent Yorkshire at higher levels.
“We’re seeing high-quality junior players emerge through those ranks,” said Dean. “I wouldn’t be surprised if some of these young athletes set their sights on moving beyond the county stage and even aspire to wear the national jersey one day. Seeing the trophy visit their club, and recognizing that a clear pathway now exists for progression, could inspire them to aim for the national team.”
Everyone is welcome to join.
