Imagine being traded not once, not twice, but three times in less than two days! That's the whirlwind journey of NBA forward Ousmane Dieng, who found himself on a wild ride before finally landing with the Milwaukee Bucks.
As the NBA All-Star break approached, most players were eager to know their next destination. For some, it meant a well-deserved break, while for others, like Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bobby Portis, it meant All-Star Weekend glory. But for Dieng, the excitement was about something else entirely.
Starting with the Milwaukee Bucks, Dieng's journey began in Oklahoma City, where he packed his bags for a back-to-back game in Texas. Little did he know, this would be the start of an incredible adventure. On February 4th, he found himself in Texas, ready to play for the Thunder against the San Antonio Spurs. But fate had other plans, and he was traded to the Charlotte Hornets. And just when he thought he had settled in, he was quickly rerouted to the Chicago Bulls.
"I was in San Antonio, waiting for my chance," Dieng recalled. "Then, in a matter of hours, I was traded twice! I had to pack my bags and fly to Chicago. It was a crazy experience."
Once in Chicago, Dieng and the Bulls got to work, preparing him for his next game in Toronto. But as soon as he boarded the plane, another trade happened! This time, he was headed to Milwaukee, his third trade in less than 48 hours.
"It was insane! I was on a regular flight to Toronto when the Milwaukee trade went through. I couldn't believe it!"
Finally, Dieng arrived in Milwaukee, ready to start a new chapter with the Bucks. Despite not playing in his first two games, he made an impression in his third and fourth appearances, showcasing his potential and versatility.
In a remarkable turn of events, Dieng put up a career-high 17 points off the bench against the Orlando Magic, followed by a season-high 19 points and a career-high 11 rebounds in his return to Oklahoma City. He even started his first game with the Bucks, a significant milestone in his young career.
"He's a natural fit for us," said Milwaukee coach Doc Rivers. "He can handle the ball, make plays, and defend. We've finally got a big three on our hands. He's got a bright future ahead."
Dieng's potential was evident to the Thunder when they traded three first-round picks to draft him in 2022. However, it remained untapped in Oklahoma City. By the trade deadline, it was clear that he needed a fresh start, and the Bucks were ready to give him that opportunity.
