The five-star Dromoland Castle, nestled in a picturesque 388-acre estate in County Clare, has been given the go-ahead for an ambitious expansion plan. This news follows Clare County Council's approval of the second phase of the resort's transformation, which will see the addition of 25 new guest rooms inspired by the prestigious Ryder Cup event.
But here's where it gets controversial: the new permission includes a net gain of 12 bedrooms, with the loss of five existing guestrooms. This strategic move will result in a significant increase in room capacity, a whopping 26% to be exact, taking the total number of guest rooms to 108.
And this is the part most people miss: the expansion doesn't stop there. The resort will also boast a new restaurant, a cellar speakeasy bar, lakeside sauna cabins, and a wet spa facility. Imagine relaxing in a sauna cabin by the lake after a day of golf! Oh, and let's not forget the new 'Palm Court', an internal guest bar and dining space, and a roost for the protected Lesser Horseshoe Bat.
The potential revenue from these new accommodations is mind-blowing. With an average nightly room rate of €650, the new rooms could bring in almost €6 million per year! That's a massive boost to the resort's annual revenues.
